Ramsar Wetland Conservation Awards 2022 - Announcing the winners

To Heads of Administrative Authorities, National Focal Points, and the Permanent Missions of all Contracting Parties of the Convention on Wetlands

The Secretariat is pleased to present the winners of the eighth edition of the Ramsar Wetland Conservation Awards as approved by Standing Committee during its 59th meeting held from 23 to 27 May 2022 in Gland, Switzerland.

Mr. Masayuki Kurechi, Board Member, Ramsar Network Japan – Recipient of the Ramsar Convention Award for Wetland Wise Use, recognizing significant contribution to the long-term sustainable use of wetlands.

Ms. Carla Ximena Giraldo Malca, Municipal Authority for the sustainability of the Pantanos de Villa wetland, Peru – Recipient of the Ramsar Convention Award for Wetland Innovation, recognizing contribution to the conservation and wise use of wetlands through an innovative technique or approach.

Ms. Fernanda Samuel, National Coordinator of Mangrove Protection and Restoration, Angola – Recipient of the Ramsar Convention Award for Young Wetland Champions, recognizing young people between 18 and 30 years old that have contributed to the wise use of wetlands.

Mr. Jérôme Bignon, President of the Association Ramsar France – Recipient of the Merit Award, recognizing long-term contribution or commitment to the conservation and wise use of wetlands and to Ramsar principles.

Winners in the categories of Wise Use, Innovation and Young Wetlands Champions Awards will each receive the Evian Special Prize of USD 10,000 provided by Danone and will be honoured at an Awards ceremony to be held at the 14th meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP14) in November 2022.
