On this International Women's Day 2024, themed "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands proudly presents the inaugural cohort of twelve Women Change Makers in the World of Wetlands. Their achievements underscore the pivotal role women worldwide play in preserving, managing, and safeguarding wetlands. “The stories of these women collectively exemplify the transformative power unleashed when women and girls, including indigenous women, are supported and empowered to lead in the conservation of wetlands,” said Dr Musonda Mumba, Secretary General of the Convention on Wetlands. The 2024 Cohort of Women Change Makers in the World of Wetlands is presented across three main categories showcasing their actions towards: • Fostering International collaboration for wetlands • Wise Use of Wetlands • Wetland Protection Through their biographies and their responses to a Q&A, gain insights into their leadership qualities, and their role as influential catalysts driving change in the protection and wise use of wetlands. Discover their role models and learn about the challenges they have encountered. Thanks to funding from the government of Canada, the Secretariat is documenting the stories of women and wetlands as a contribution to mainstreaming gender perspectives in the implementation of the Convention. The 2024 Cohort of Women Change Makers in the World of Wetlands is an output of this initiative. |
