Ramsar Wetland Conservation Awards: Call for nominations
The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands presents its compliments to the Permanent Missions and Administrative Authorities of the Contracting Parties to the Convention and has the honour to announce the call for nominations for the ninth edition of the Ramsar Wetland Conservation Awards and the Evian Special Prize by Danone, to be presented at the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP15) in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
The Ramsar Wetland Conservation Awards recognize and honour the contributions of individuals, organizations and governments around the world in promoting the conservation and wise use of wetlands.
They were established at COP6 in 1996 through Resolution VI.18, and have been awarded eight times. Information on past editions of the Ramsar Awards is available on the Convention website at the address: https://www.ramsar.org/ramsar-awards-previous-editions.
At its 63rd meeting in June 2024, the Standing Committee through Decision SC63-14 decided that awards will be presented at COP15 in the following categories:
- the Ramsar Wetland Conservation Award for Young Wetland Champions;
- the Ramsar Wetland Conservation Award for Innovation; and
- the Ramsar Wetland Indigenous Peoples Conservation and Wise Use Award.
Nominations must be submitted in one of these categories only. The deadline for the receipt of nominations is 30 September 2024.
The nomination form and information on the categories, criteria and procedures for the Awards are available on the Convention website at the address: https://www.ramsar.org/our-work/activities/ramsar-awards.
The Secretariat would be grateful for the assistance of Contracting Parties in passing on information about the Awards to relevant institutions, in order to encourage the nomination of suitable candidates.
