Date: 17.10.2024
To: Heads of Administrative Authorities, National Focal Points, Permanent Missions and IOPs
For the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, 21 October to 1 November 2024, Cali, Colombia, the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands has prepared a brief on how wetland wise use, protection and restoration can be harnessed to deliver biodiversity outcomes.
The brief highlights the importance of wetland biodiversity, its role in sustaining people and maintaining the world’s hydrological and climate systems, and identifies how commitments and efforts under the Convention on Wetlands can be leveraged in delivering the goals and targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
The brief is enclosed to this message, and also available on the Convention website, https://www.ramsar.org/convention-wetlands-cbd-cop16. The page also lists events during COP16 co-organized by the Secretariat, and includes links to tools and knowledge products prepared under the Convention on Wetlands.
You are encouraged to further disseminate this brief as appropriate, including sharing it with your delegations to COP16 and with relevant partners.
