Small Wetlands: Their Importance and Strategies for Effective Conservation

We are pleased to share a new Policy Brief prepared by the Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP) of the Convention on Wetlands. Policy Brief 7 Small Wetlands: Their Importance and Strategies for Effective Conservation was prepared in response to Resolutions XIV.15 and XIII.21 on the conservation and management of small wetlands (Task 2.2 in the STRP Work Plan 2023-2025), in collaboration with IOPs and STRP Observers.

The Policy Brief offers recommendations to protect and restore small wetlands, including improving national wetland inventories, promoting local and landscape-scale partnerships, integrating small wetlands into conservation plans, and enabling cost-effective restoration strategies. Case studies from around the world showcase how small wetlands can contribute to achieving national and global biodiversity, climate, and sustainable development goals.
