About the webinar
This webinar will mark the launch of Policy Brief 8 “Agriculture and Wetlands: Supporting Farmers and Practitioners towards Sustainable Food Systems and Healthy Catchments” and will present the main findings of Technical Report 13: “Agriculture and Wetlands: Maintaining and Restoring Wetlands for Sustainable Food Production and Ecosystem Health”.
The two publications highlight the close interdependence between wetlands and agriculture. They demonstrate that wetlands provide vital ecosystem services for food production, such as water regulation, nutrient cycling, supporting biodiversity and enhancing climate resilience. They also show how unsustainable agricultural practices can lead to the loss and degradation of wetlands.
Drawing on global evidence and case studies from different regions, the webinar will explore practical approaches to aligning sustainable agricultural development with the wise use of wetlands. The publications emphasise the importance of context-specific solutions, stronger governance, supporting farmers in transition and taking an integrated approach at catchment and food system levels.
The webinar will explore:
- Key findings and recommendations from Policy Brief 8 and Technical Report 13.
- Examples of sustainable agriculture–wetland interactions from different regions and production systems.
- How Contracting Parties and practitioners can better integrate wetland conservation and wise use into agricultural policy, planning and management.
This event will be of particular interest to National Focal Points, policymakers, agricultural and environmental authorities, wetland practitioners, site managers, and other stakeholders engaged in sustainable agriculture, food systems, and wetland conservation.
