Call for nomination of members of the CEPA Oversight Panel for the 2019-2021 triennium

Following the approval of the Standing Committee on the new proposed structure of the CEPA Oversight Panel, the Secretariat is pleased to invite nominations of members of the CEPA Oversight Panel for the 2019-2021 triennium.
At the 13th meeting of the Conference of Contracting Parties (COP13), the Parties mandated the CEPA Oversight Panel, through paragraphs 24, 25, 26 and 27 of Resolution XIII.5 on Review of the fourth Strategic Plan of the Ramsar Convention, with the following tasks:

to present to the Standing Committee, at its 57th meeting (SC57), its proposal to assume the responsibilities assigned to the Panel in Resolution XII.9 on The Ramsar Convention’s Programme on communication, capacity building, education, participation and awareness (CEPA) 2016-2024 ;

to develop a new approach for supporting CEPA implementation, taking into account the work already carried out by the Panel prior to COP13;

to present the new CEPA approach at SC59 and a draft resolution on this subject to COP14; and
-
to indicate which Parties have agreed to join the Panel’s work for this undertaking, in order to ensure that, for this specific task, all six Ramsar regions are represented by Parties
The new approved structure of the CEPA Oversight Panel is as follows:

The Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee, acting as Chair of the Oversight Panel;

Maximum six representatives of Contracting Parties, which may include CEPA Government Focal Points, Standing Committee members or other representatives of Parties (maximum one per region);

The Vice-Chair of the STRP;
-
Maximum two NGO Focal Points (not from the same region);
-
Maximum two representatives of the International Organization Partners; and
-
The Ramsar Secretariat (ex officio).
The Secretariat is requesting that Parties submit nominations of:

Six representatives of Contracting Parties, which may include CEPA Government Focal Points, Standing Committee members or other representatives of Parties (one per region);
-
Two NGO representatives (not from the same region);
The deadline for nominations is 27 May 2019.
If eligible nominations representing all regions are not received by this date, additional nominations will be requested at SC57.
A nomination form is attached requesting information about relevant experience and proficiency in the English language.
The Secretariat will compile received nominations and present them to the Chair of the CEPA Oversight Panel in advance of SC57 so that the Chair can propose a list of Panel members for approval by SC57.
