From the STRP Chair: STRP follow up work and preparation for the SC58
Date: 17.03.2020
Dear STRP National Focal Points,
It is an honour for me to take on the position of STRP Chair and to work with you for the remainder of the triennium. I would like to thank the STRP Vice-Chair, Dr Rebelo, for her leadership and commitment during the precedent months.
Since my appointment last Friday, I have taken steps to assume my functions as rapidly as possible. I had a call with the Secretariat yesterday and I am up to speed with the progress being made with the highest priority tasks. I would like to thank the task leads for their commitment and the progress being made. We are in a very challenging time with the Coronavirus global crisis, which is having a massive impact in people’s lives across the world. It also had an impact on the work of the Panel, as its 23rd meeting had to be postponed. I would like to reassure you that the Secretariat is already putting in place virtual mechanisms to ensure that our work can proceed. I will be communicating with task leads very soon on the next steps and to all the Panel members to continue progressing our work towards the 58th meeting of the Standing Committee to take place on 22-26 June 2020.
I look forward to a fruitful collaboration this triennium, and I would like to thank you for your active engagement in the important work of the Panel. I will do my best efforts to support you to ensure that we can work at our best to deliver of the highest priority tasks to enable Contracting Parties and other stakeholders to effectively conserve and wisely use our wetlands.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands on behalf of
Dr Lei Guangchun
