The Convention on Wetlands: Survey on guidance on mainstreaming gender

Date: 04.12.2020

To: Administrative Authorities and National Focal Points

As mentioned in the communication sent on 29 July 2020, the Secretariat is developing a guidance document on how to integrate gender-responsive approaches into the implementation of the Convention in accordance with Resolution XIII.18 on Gender and Wetlands. In that communication the Secretariat requested case studies from Contracting Parties and partner organizations to illustrate and learn lessons from gender mainstreaming in different types of wetlands and contexts. The Secretariat would like to thank Contracting Parties and partner organizations that submitted case studies as these have enriched the guidance document.

In order to finalize the guidance, the Secretariat is sharing the draft attached to receive feedback from Contracting Parties to ensure that it responds to your needs in the best possible way.

For reference, please note that the guidance contains: (1) benefits of mainstreaming a gender-responsive approach in the wise use and management of wetlands; (2) key operational and practical entry points to ensure gender equality and women’s empowerment for wetlands management as well as the implementation of the Convention and its strategic plan for 2016-2024; and (3) case studies which were collected widely from the Contracting Parties to showcase the value of gender-based approaches for the wise use and management of wetlands.

To receive inputs from Contracting Parties in the preparation of the guidance find in the link below a short survey to determine Contracting Parties' needs regarding gender mainstreaming.
