Side event details
Introduction : Resolution XIV.11 “Wetland education in the formal education sector” was adopted at Ramsar COP14 in 2022. It encourages Contracting Parties and wetland stakeholders to support the integration of wetland education in formal education settings and to increase wetland education opportunities in schools and learning institutions. The CEPA Programme of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands recognizes education as an equally important component, and its integration with other elements is critical for successfully implementing the Convention. Children are one of the key stakeholders of the wetland education and their role is critical to bring wetland education into action and connect education to conservation. Involving young generation including children in conservation education ensures long-term sustainability through knowledge transfer and community engagement. This side event aims to highlight the children-led advocacy in wetland conservation and to showcase best practices in implementing Resolution XIV.11 on national and regional level.
Outcome: Increased awareness of implementing Resolution XIV.11 and strengthened partnership among relevant stakeholders including young generation and Contracting Parties.
Relevance to COP15: Wetland education is a vital means of delivering the importance of wetland conservation from generation to generation and of achieving the Convention’s goals and targets.
