Details

The event will focus on role of wetlands, particularly freshwater bodies and rivers in biodiversity conservation. Experts and Policy makers will discuss the role of wetlands in biodiversity conservation, including a focus on waterbird conservation. Discussion will also focus on the successes and challenges in wetland conservation in Zimbabwe including the effectiveness of the entire governance framework. Four of Zimbabwe' s seven Ramsar sites are managed as Protected Areas and the significance of this arrangement will be discusswd as well. At CoP 15 there are draft decisions for discussion on both Waterfowls and Protected Areas hence the event will help unpack the two. 
Outcomes
1. an appreciation of the linkages between and collaborative implementation of the Wetlands Convention 
2. a shared understanding of the critical role of wetlands in the waterbird conservation
3. lessons from Zimbabwe' experience in wetland conservation
